The internet has also helped to spread the message around the globe to many millions.
Napoleon Hill was coached and inspired by Andrew Carnegie (1835 – 1919).
The principles were gathered from the life experiences of more than 500 men who accumulated riches in huge amounts.
Most of these men began in poverty, with little formal education, real life rags to riches stories.
The 13 principles worked for these men. You can use them to work for your own lasting benefit.
To summarise the 13 principles in Napoleon Hill’s book:
1. Desire – You have to have a desire for success. The is the starting point on which all riches are built.
2. Faith – The visualization and belief that you will attain your desire
3. Auto Suggestion – The repeating of your desires twice daily to program it into your subconscious mind
4. Specialized Knowledge – Specific knowledge of the service, merchandise, or profession that you intend to offer in return for the success that you desire
5. Imagination – using your creative imagination to come up with new or better ways of doing things
6. Organized Planning – A clear and concise plan to obtain your burning desire, turn your desire into positive action
7. Decision – Leaders make decisions quickly and are very slow to change them. Procrastination, the opposite of Decision, is a common enemy which practically every man must conquer.
8. Persistence – You must persist without exception. Keep on going at all costs.
9. Power of the Master Mind – You will never know everything, so you must find other people of a similar persuasion to mix with. This will help you to develop new and creative ideas. Stick with the winners, some of their success and positive attitude will rub off onto you. The company you keep will influence you.
10.The mystery of Sex Transmutation – Sex is the strongest human desire. The ability to transmute the desire for sex into other productive activities.
11.The Subconscious Mind – This is the process of controlling your subconscious mind through auto-suggestion and positive thinking. The subconscious mind works day and night even while we are asleep.
12.The Brain – The human brain is like a radio station, a transmitter and receiver to the cosmos or universal intelligence. The works of Deepak Chopra will explain this in more detail.
13.The Sixth Sense – The medium of contact between the mind of man and Infinite Intelligence, a mixture of both the mental and the spiritual.
Success comes to those who become success conscious.
Failure comes to those who allow themselves to become failure conscious.
You have to learn how to change your mind from failure consciousness to success consciousness.
This power does not discriminate between destructive thoughts and constructive thoughts. It will translate into physical reality.
Thoughts of failure and poverty work just as effectively and quickly as thoughts of success and wealth.
One of the tricks of opportunity is that it has a sly habit of slipping in by the back door, and often it comes disguised in the form of
temporary defeat. This could be why so many of us fail to recognize opportunity.
One of the most common causes of failure is the habit of quitting when one is overtaken by temporary defeat.
Most people have made this mistake at one time or another. That is a lesson of life.
Of more than 500 of the most successful men the United States has ever known, most told Napoleon Hill that their greatest success came just one step beyond the point at which they believed defeat had beaten them.
Do not give up, sometimes success is just around the corner.
